And, for the first time in 9 years we won't be exhibiting. And it feels great to know that we can use this time to focus on our core products: digital and dimensional signs and mobile vehicle advertising wraps. Our core products are also our favorite types of jobs to design and produce, and are well fitted to our arsenal of signmaking equipment. We're passionate about promoting your business, and we love this business and the business of promoting your business!

Although Carroll's and The Cranberry Bog are long since closed, we got a bit of exposure in the Asbury Park Press about the place. Quite a few years ago we began making signs for the Reynolds Family at the restaurant. When the restaurants abruptly closed all kinds of rumors were flying. We were recently visited by another client, whose company has purchased the property and is in the process of converting the landmark into retail shops. The Asbury Park Press article had a couple of nice shots of our Carved Gold Leaf Restaurant sign and our digitally printed real estate coming soon sign with an architectural rendering of the building.

Trade show booth at the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Show. Special thanks to Reynolds Landscaping for the use of the plants that really make our display pop.

I'm typically blogging about all of the "glamorous" signs we make here at Typestries. Yes, most of the signs we make are carefully tailored to be excellent business promotion tools. But, we also make signs that serve a specific, often very limited purpose. Case in point with this project. You're looking at an order for reflective parking lot regulation signs. Not much fancy stuff here-just reflective vinyl faces on .080 aluminum sign blanks. Even though this is a relatively simple job, we still take the time with the design and layout to ensure the design is balanced and effective. Careful use of font weights, line breaks and copy color can make even a simple sign like this more effective—and we take the time to do so even on a job as seemingly simple as this.

Looking for a unique holiday Gift? .

The shop is brimming with many different types of sign projects. We're actually really versatile when it comes to signmaking. We have the capability in house to produce all types of signs and visual identity products. Short run decals, specialty truck and vehicle lettering, custom static cling, window posters, and our favorite, carved, gold-leaf prismatic cut out letters.

These are the first of a few signs that have been ordered as holiday gifts. We've got an excellent display of carved house signs that make great gifts in our Ship Bottom store, and this year I'm adding a twist to the holiday gift signs that should make a carved house sign a gift anyone can enjoy. Most of our custom house signs start in the $300 price range. This year we'll be offering a $95 holiday gift sign. I wanted to make a nice sign at a price point appropriate for all gift giving opportunities. Like their more expensive counterparts they'll have gold leaf, be carved, and will be designed to provide many years of enjoyment. If you know of someone looking for a unique gift or are looking for a gift yourself, please pass along the details of our special offer. Email me if you need details or to place an order, or you can download a PDF info sheet here. .

Prismatic letters in the production process. They're for Debbie Whitcraft's Museum of New Jersey Maritime History in Beach Haven. When complete, they'll be bright, shiny gold leaf letters, and for a twist, will mount on a curved wall. Once we get the leaf on these, I'll post a few more photos detailing the extensive finishing process we go through on this type of work.

A portion of the graphics required for the M & L Marine service truck. After printing, we will cut these in a special plotter with an electronic eye that aligns the cut to the print.

Admitted weakness at Typestries: Keeping brushes clean. As a kid when I helped my Dad paint, he trained me better than this!

Here's a little update on the WOXY decals we made up. The awesome news is that woxy.com is up and broadcasting again. Lot's of live lounge acts, too! And the new owners (lala.com) have a really neat service. I've already listed a bunch of CD's for trade and received my first traded disc today.

For the decals, we had over 250 emails for the decals. Since I funded this effort on my own, I had to draw the line just over 100 or so. So, If for some reason you did not receive a woxy decal I'm sorry. I had someone ask to send me money to make some, but regretfully I need to decline. If it's going to be a money making thing than woxy deserves the financial gain to keep such a great product coming to all listeners. Plus I'm not about to reproduce their artwork for a financial gain without their permission. So, please don't send me any money for decals....

thanks for all of the great comments and emails. Let's all spread the word about the wonderful music experience woxy.com provides.

Here's what I pretty much look at all day long (not just this particular job, of course). I'm grateful for my large Apple Cinema display. With such a huge screen I can keep all of my pallets organized and hop around between the design applications that we rely on everyday. Here I'm working on re-creating a historic look and feel of a Cuban propaganda poster for Fidel Castro. Why on earth would I be doing this? It's going to become a large digitally printed set piece. This job calls for three 12 foot square mesh banners. Each one has a historic recreation of communist propaganda poster that fits the theme of the music the band has arranged for this season of competition. Last year, local legend Chuck Wilson devised a steel frame structure that could be easily assembled on the performance field. These banners have pole pockets on the edges and actually wrap around the frame and are tensioned tight to make a completely weatherproof, wind resistant set piece. These outdoor sets are rolled onto the field by band parent volunteers for the perfromance. The concept worked so well last year that we're back at it again this year. If you've got a challenging display project that requires a unique solution, drop me a line or give a call—perhaps we can engineer a solution to fit your needs and your budget.

The Signs and design inspiration of Cars The Movie

Cars is truly amazing. For an Adult. In a design world. In the sign business. Did I mention I'd go again, without Logan? It was that good.
